Today was supposed to be a tempo run. The first mile was on point but I lost 15 seconds by mile 2. Mile 3 saw me stop and walk, and by mile 4 I had accepted that my body wasn't going to cooperate with a tempo today and that my choices were to slow down to an easy pace or to walk. I went with the easy pace. 9:37 average for 4 miles. 9:45 was my hot weather pace when I started training with MarathonFest last August, so to be struggling to hold this pace today made me feel a bit defeated. But, this was just one day, and it was a hot, humid one. The victory is that I ran at all. I almost skipped this run. I forgot to eat. I forgot to hydrate. I forgot my phone and my running belt. My friend is visiting from D.C. and we are all going out tonight, so both my husband and my friend encouraged me to consider skipping my run this morning so that I wouldn't be super tired this evening. But, I knew I wouldn't get it done if I didn't run at 5 a.m. and that I would be mad at myself if I didn't run today, so I silenced what everybody else thought, put myself go bed at 9:30 p.m., and got it done. I don't mean to sound like my family and friends aren't supportive. 99% of the time my husband is very encouraging of my running, but he also knows that I'm asleep on our couch by 9 most days that I get up at 4. I'm tired, and it wasn't my best run, but I'm still proud of myself for doing what *I* wanted to do and not letting myself be thrown off. Getting up at 4 is hard. I'm not a morning person. But, this is MY time. I am Mommy for the majority of my waking hours. This is my time to be Abby. To clear my mind and sweat out stress. To sometimes listen to nothing but my gangster rap, but other times to socialize. My running is as much for my mental health as it is for my physical health. I've been added to a new pace group for this weekend, though I'm having doubts about running faster in this recent hotter weather. I'll probably make myself try it, anyway, but I'm just throwing it out there that I'm super nervous. One thing I've learned in the last few years is that it's OK to be nervous as long as you do it, anyway.
Bom dia flor do dia!!! ( Bia 🙋🏽♀️ )
